Candy Hands is a series about a girl who doesn’t want to lose her best friend.
Del is hard-headed and tough, so when her best and only friend Maddie, along with every other kid in town, gets imprisoned by the evil witch Mimilda in an enchanted indoor waterpark, our hero knows just what to do: rescue Maddie!
The only problem is that the witch accidentally curses Del with bizarre magic that gives her candy for hands. So Del not only has to save everyone from the witch, but she is doing so with chocolate, licorice, taffy hands! Needless to say, Del’s in trouble. She’s going to need help on her quest whether she likes it or not--and she definitely does not.
Along the way, we’ll see that Del’s veneer of certainty and strength is compensating for a lot of fear and an allergy to vulnerability. We’ll watch as she learns sometimes being strong means being vulnerable. It’s a fun adventure through a fantastical waterpark world full of wish fulfillment and action, with sugary sweet emotional payoffs that feel both surprising and inevitable. Who doesn’t love to see an independent, outwardly strong character thrust into a world in which those traits are more of a liability than an advantage? A classic fish-out-of-water tale set in the wet and wild world the likes of which audiences have never experienced.
